Moulana Shoaib Vawda has been serving as the Imam and Headteacher at Wimbledon Mosque since 1996, dedicating over two decades to Islamic scholarship, pastoral care, and community service. With a strong academic background, he earned his Aalim degree from Madrasah Kashiful Uloom in Delhi, where he developed a deep understanding of Islamic jurisprudence, theology, and ethics. Over the years, he has further expanded his knowledge through specialised training in healthcare chaplaincy and Islamic ethics, enabling him to offer comprehensive spiritual support to the community.
At Wimbledon Mosque, Moulana Shoaib plays a central role in leading and guiding the congregation. He leads the five daily prayers, delivers the Jumu’ah Khutbah (Friday sermon), and provides pastoral care to community members. His responsibilities extend to offering general and matrimonial counselling, solemnising Nikah (Islamic marriages), and overseeing funeral and burial services. He also makes regular visits to the sick and elderly, ensuring they receive emotional and spiritual support in times of need. Additionally, he is passionate about Islamic education, managing the affairs of the Madrasah and personally teaching Islamic Studies to children. To promote continuous learning, he hosts a weekly Darse Qur’an (Qur’anic study session), providing valuable insights into the teachings of Islam.
Beyond his role at the mosque, Moulana Shoaib is actively involved in healthcare chaplaincy, serving as a Muslim Chaplain at the Royal Neuro Disability Hospital and West London NHS Trust. In these roles, he provides spiritual care and counselling to patients, their families, and hospital staff, helping them navigate the challenges of illness and recovery. His extensive experience in this field allows him to work effectively with individuals from diverse faiths and backgrounds, fostering an atmosphere of compassion and understanding.
Moulana Shoaib’s ability to connect with people is further strengthened by his fluency in Gujarati, Urdu, and Arabic, enabling him to engage with a wide range of individuals within the Muslim community and beyond. He is deeply committed to professional and spiritual development, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance his knowledge in counselling, Islamic ethics, and chaplaincy.
