Imam Owais Ahmed
Imam
Moulana Owais was born and raised in Wimbledon, London, where he completed his early education. From a young age, he had a deep connection with the Qur’an and Islamic studies, which led him to pursue formal religious education. His journey in Islamic scholarship began at Dewsbury Markaz, where he successfully completed the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an (Hifz).
Eager to further his studies, Moulana Owais traveled to Pakistan and enrolled at Jamiatul Uloom Islamiyyah Binnori Town in Karachi. He spent two years there, immersing himself in the foundational sciences of the Alimiyyah course. His thirst for knowledge then took him to Darul Uloom Newcastle, South Africa, where he continued his studies until the final year. Determined to finish his Islamic education, he returned to Pakistan and completed his Daura Hadith (final year of Alimiyyah) at Jamia Islamia Karachi.
After completing his formal Islamic education, Moulana Owais returned to London, where he was appointed as an Imam and Madrasah teacher at Morden Islamic Centre. He served the community there for nearly a year, leading prayers and teaching Islamic studies to children and adults. During this time, he also worked as a translator and interpreter for the NHS, assisting patients who spoke Urdu and Pashto in various London hospitals.
In pursuit of serving his local community, he accepted a position at Wimbledon Mosque, where he has been serving as an Imam and Islamic Studies teacher since 2009. Over the years, he has become a vital part of the mosque, leading daily prayers, conducting evening and weekend Madrasah classes, and delivering Friday sermons (Jumu’ah khutbahs) at different prayer halls and hospitals. His role extends beyond the mosque, as he has assisted the Muslim community in various religious matters, including Nikah (Islamic marriages), funeral services, and pastoral care.
With over a decade of service at Wimbledon Mosque, Moulana Owais continues to dedicate himself to educating, guiding, and supporting the Muslim community. His extensive knowledge, experience, and deep-rooted commitment to Islamic scholarship make him a valued leader and teacher.
